The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 3 to 9 February 2020 is National Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week; believes that sexual abuse and violence is never the fault of the survivor but, rather, always the fault of the abuser; understands that it has a devastating impact on the lives of the people affected; notes that abuse comes in many forms, including emotional and financial manipulation and coercive control; understands that such violence and abuse has not, and never will be, justifiable; believes that it is vital to continue the conversation about the topic to ensure that the people affected face no stigma around seeking help and speaking about their experiences, and commends organisations throughout the country, such as Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis and Women’s Aid, which is based in Kirkintilloch, for offering a safe haven for survivors and confidential support and counselling services for people who have experienced sexual abuse and violence.
