Lidl Opens 100th Store in Scotland and Raises Over £30,000 for Charity

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Lidl on the opening of its 100th store in Scotland during its 25th year of operating in the UK; acknowledges that the retailer celebrated the milestone by teaming up with the Scottish singer-songwriter, KT Tunstall, for a nationwide charity tour, which raised over £30,000 for the STV Children’s Appeal, which helps local projects across Scotland that work hard to support children at risk of poverty; understands that the retailer has built a network of over 60 Scottish suppliers and prides itself on offering first-time retail listings for Scottish food and drink companies; recognises that the retailer has high market penetration in rural areas across Scotland, with stores from Kirkwall to Stranraer; welcomes Lidl’s ongoing commitment to expansion in Scotland, including a new store opening in East Kilbride in 2019 and one set to open in Larkhall in March 2020; notes that its largest warehouse in the UK also opened in Motherwell in 2019; further notes the plans to open 11 new stores and create up to 500 new jobs by 2022, and wishes Lidl continued success for the future.
