Scotland, A WorldSkills Success Story

The motion

That the Parliament marks Scotland’s ongoing success in WorldSkills UK’s skills competitions; considers that WorldSkills UK works to inspire, develop and influence the skills of the future with career advice and developing technical and employability skills of young people through national and international programmes, as well as influencing standards and approaches to training through its Productivity Lab programme in order that more young people and employers get access to world-class skills; understands that, since 2013, a college from Scotland has topped the medal table at the UK Finals, with New College Lanarkshire being ranked number one on four occasions, including most recently in November 2019, and City of Glasgow College on three occasions; recognises that Scotland was ranked number one in the UK at the WorldSkills UK National Finals in 2019, gaining 12 gold, nine silver, 13 bronze and 12 highly commended awards across 15 providers; further recognises that Scotland had five competitors representing Team UK in WorldSkills Kazan 2019, who brought back two medallions from the competition; notes that, over the last five years, Scotland has won 11 medals at international competitions such as WorldSkills and EuroSkills; believes that the achievements of Scottish competitors in these skills competitions are testament to the wealth of talent that exists in Scotland and demonstrate the immense potential of the country’s workforce for the future; commends the efforts and successes of all the competitors and the team at WorldSkills UK, and wishes everyone involved in the competitions the very best in their future endeavours.
