Coming to a Cinema Near You at the Pavilion, Galashiels
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that 2020 will mark a century of cinema in Galashiels, with the town’s Pavilion Cinema celebrating its centenary in May; notes that the cinema has previously been known as the Playhouse, the Capital and the Kingsway, and has over the years also been home to a theatre, a dance hall and a bingo hall alongside its screens; understands that the owners of the Pavilion plan to mark this anniversary by creating a “Memories Are Made At The Movies” gallery in the building to feature people’s experiences and memories of the cinema; considers that it is a rarity to find communities with local cinemas that have not only survived but continue to fulfil their original purpose, and congratulates everyone involved over the last 100 years on entertaining generations of Borderers.
