Opening of Dòchas House in Bishopbriggs
The motion
That the Parliament commends Dòchas House in Bishopbriggs, which is a newly-opened invaluable national resource and, it understands, the first of its kind in Scotland; acknowledges that this high-quality facility offers a safe and nurturing environment for girls who have experienced or are experiencing multiple and complex trauma, including comprehensive and individually-tailored therapeutic support; considers that the approach of Dòchas House is embedded with the practice of mutual respect between staff and girls, utilising a therapeutic and trauma-informed model of care; notes that the House, which features modern amenities, aims to provide girls with the opportunity to develop skills to manage the effects of trauma, as well as academic and vocational routes to learning, and congratulates the Director of Services, Carole Dearie, the staff and the board at St Mary’s Kenmure on the opening of what it considers this revolutionary and progressive facility that will support girls with sensitivity and respect.
