Innovative Safety Technology Installed in West Dunbartonshire Refuse Vehicles
The motion
That the Parliament commends West Dunbartonshire Council on becoming, it understands, the first council in the UK to introduce innovative safety technology that allows its refuse collection vehicles to be brought to a controlled stop in an emergency situation; notes that the VT StopSafe System allows crew members to safely slow down and stop the vehicle if the driver loses control for any reason; understands that the Vehicle Certification Authority-approved safety feature has recently been installed in each of the council's 21 bin lorries; further understands that all waste staff have received training in operating the system; welcomes this initiative, which it considers keeps staff and residents safe, and applauds West Dunbartonshire Council for introducing these safety measures.
