The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the new report from Barnardo’s Scotland, Supervision in Education – Healthier Schools For All; notes that the report is the second in a series of papers looking at trauma-informed schools aiming to support a shift towards system and culture change within education; recognises what it considers the overwhelming evidence in the report from over 400 education professionals, who argue that structured support for their own mental health is required; considers that 95% of respondents to the survey agreed that supervision should be introduced for education; notes that the report includes key recommendations for next steps by local and national government as well as education bodies; acknowledges the role that it considers supervision can have in creating a trauma-informed and responsive workforce in line with the Scottish Government's commitments; highlights what it sees as the crucial importance of supporting those working in education with their own mental health and wellbeing in order for them to support the pupils in their care, and congratulates Barnardo’s Scotland on what it considers this important contribution to the debate.
