TOFS 2020 Awareness Week

The motion

That the Parliament recognises TOFS 2020 Awareness Week, which runs from 24 February to 1 March 2020 and includes Rare Diseases Day on 29 February; considers that the week is an opportunity to raise awareness about oesophageal atresia (OA), tracheo-oesophageal fistula (TOF) and VACTERL association; supports the attempt to increase public understanding, especially among medical professionals, who may not be aware of these rare congenital conditions or their implications for babies, children and adults; acknowledges that these conditions have lifelong impacts, including reflux, feeding issues, respiratory problems and potentially multiple surgeries; congratulates the charity, TOFS (Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula Support), on almost 40 years of supporting families through the challenges of bringing up a child with TOF/OA, VACTERL and associated conditions, by providing one-to-one support and a range of information and resources, including on its website, tofs.org.uk; welcomes progress in research and development into the condition, and thanks all parents, families and healthcare professionals for their efforts in helping those affected.
