Royal Troon to Host the 152nd Open Championship
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that the 152nd Open Championship will be played at Royal Troon Golf Club from 16 to 23 July 2023; understands that this will be the 10th time that the links course in South Ayrshire will host the championship and will mark 100 years since it was first played at Troon in 1923; notes that The Open was last held there in 2016 when Henrik Stenson triumphed over Phil Mickelson in a dramatic final round that is widely considered to be one of the best since the legendary “duel in the sun” between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus at The Open in 1977; further notes that, in August 2020, Royal Troon is hosting the AIG Women’s British Open for the first time; recognises the commercial benefits to Troon and Scotland more widely of The Open and other major golf events, and looks forward to a successful event in 2023.
