VE Day 75th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news of the planned UK-wide VE Day 75th Commemoration and Celebrations; understands that the Ancre Somme Association Scotland is inviting veterans and arranging a local series of VE Day celebrations events between 8 and 10 May 2020 in partnership with Bathgate Community Council, St Kentigern's Academy, Bathgate Academy and local primary schools; acknowledges the importance of the remembrance of "Victory in Europe" and the engagement by many organisations, including the Armed Forces and their associated charities, with young people, communities and schools to raise awareness of why the Allies’ victory in the Second World War should never be forgotten, and why racism and division should never be tolerated; considers it essential that young people and communities fully understand the role of the Armed Forces, not only 75 years ago, but also their importance today in protecting UK and Commonwealth territories; pays tribute to veterans and the brave generation that saved the UK from tyranny, and wishes everyone involved in every VE Day anniversary celebration all the very best for their resounding success.
