Motion · S5M-21461 · 16 Apr 2020
NFU, Chinese Sky Lanterns
The motion
That the Parliament notes the concerns raised by the NFU regarding plans for a mass Chinese sky lantern release in support of NHS workers; understands that the lanterns can cause wildfires, damage agricultural buildings and injure animals, and are particularly dangerous in rural areas such as the Scottish Borders; appreciates the NFU's concern that emergency services should not be placed under unnecessary pressure during the COVID-19 pandemic and understands that it advises against the release of Chinese sky lanterns; encourages people to show support for NHS staff and key workers through other means, such as clapping or drawing and displaying rainbows, and wishes NHS staff and key workers all the best.
