Volunteering Week 2020
The motion
That the Parliament notes that 1 to 7 June 2020 is Volunteering Week; recognises that this event is an opportunity to celebrate and to say thank you for the contribution that volunteers make across Scotland; notes that, more recently, many thousands of people volunteered to take on COVID-19-related volunteering roles to help communities with the many consequences of the coronavirus; considers that, as well as helping others, volunteering has also been shown to improve volunteers’ wellbeing and can help individuals gain valuable new skills, experience and boost confidence; notes the contribution that the volunteering sector makes to the UK economy and the vital role that volunteers provide to charities, supporting frontline services, including fundraising, events and campaigning efforts, and acknowledges the vital role of volunteering and its enormous benefit to society.
