Network Rail Marks International Women in Engineering Day

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that Network Rail celebrated female engineers in Scotland’s Railway on International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June 2020; understands that company recently commissioned a survey of more than 2,000 16- to 21 year-old women across the UK and that 77% of those who responded said that there was a lack of well-known female role models in STEM; notes the Network Rail project, Gender Matters, which seeks to remove barriers for woman at all levels of its organisation; acknowledges that the operator has set a target to increase its overall female representation to at least 26%; welcomes this project, which will also looks at facilities, welfare, attraction, recruitment, retention and progression, and commends Network Rail on its research and aim to recruit more women.
