Motion · S5M-22212 · 2 Jul 2020
21 Years of the Scottish Youth Parliament
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) on its 21st anniversary; notes that the SYP was established in 1999 to give a democratically-elected voice to Scotland’s young people; acknowledges what it sees as the influence that it has had on encouraging young people across Scotland to make their voices heard and be a part of influencing change; recognises that its mission is to provide a national platform for young people to discuss the issues that are important to them and campaign for changes to the nation that they live in; notes that it embodies Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states that young people have the right to express their views freely and have their opinions listened to in all matters affecting them, and wishes everyone involved in the growth of the SYP all the best.
