Women's Aid East and Midlothian's Proposed Empowerment Centre
The motion
That the Parliament supports the proposal by Women’s Aid East and Midlothian (WAEML) to launch a women’s empowerment centre; understands that this will be a safe space where women can work, socialise and relax and that it will support them in starting businesses; acknowledges that there are many barriers to women being able to start businesses, including difficulties in finding childcare; understands that the facility will offer a range of classes and events, as well as opportunities to network and mingle; notes that it will be open to all women to enjoy and meet new people and will provide access to an office that will be a safe space and offer childcare facilities; understands that WAEML already provides support and refuge for women and children who are survivors of domestic abuse and that this service has been crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic; thanks WAEML for its work, including with this exciting and innovative project; notes that more information on this can be found by visiting facebook.com/watch/waeml, and sends its wishes to the many entrepreneurs whom it hopes will start and develop businesses when the project goes ahead.
