People’s Energy Brings Jobs to the Borders
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that Edinburgh-based energy supplier, People’s Energy, is expanding into Selkirk; understands that the move will directly create 100 new jobs across the Borders over the next 18 months, at a time when many jobs are being lost due to the economic impact of COVID-19; notes that People’s Energy is a social enterprise that was established in 2017 with the overarching aim of eradicating fuel poverty in the UK; recognises that the enterprise is striving towards achieving this goal and is entering the prepayment meter market with the aim of lowering these tariffs to the same price as those paid by direct debit customers; congratulates the energy supplier for recently becoming a Community Interest Company (CIC), and believes that this expansion into the Borders will come as welcome news for both the Borders and South of Scotland economy.
