Concern for LGBT Rights in Poland
The motion
That the Parliament expresses concern regarding human rights, and particularly LGBT minority rights, in Poland, in light of reports on 7 August 2020 of police in Warsaw brutally detaining 48 peaceful protesters who opposed the arrest of an LGBT+ activist named Margot; expresses its solidarity with the detained protesters who, according to the report by the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights, included passers-by and, it understands, were detained in violation of the rule of law, including withholding information about the legal basis of arrests, refusals to grant phone calls to family members or legal representation, and humiliating and excessive measures such as naked searches; considers that such excessive use of force by the police threatens the democratic processes and legitimises violence against this already stigmatised community; expresses its solidarity with LGBT Polish people in Scotland, and believes that Scotland is a welcoming place for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, skin colour, accent or country of origin.
