Motion · S5M-22571 · 28 Aug 2020
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern the significant impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on animal welfare charities, including Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home (EDCH), with financial losses in excess of £650,000 in 2020 due to fundraising activities being suspended during the lockdown; notes that this has led to redundancies and a reduction in key services but that, despite this, it has continued to take in stray and abandoned animals and to support vulnerable pet owners in the community through its pet foodbank, where demand has increased by 130%; notes that the EDCH is launching an emergency appeal for funding in late September 2020 and re-applying to the COVID-19 Third Sector Resilience Fund to try to keep this vital service open, and wishes it well in these endeavours and for the future.
