University of Dundee Appoints New Principal

That the Parliament notes the announcement that Professor Iain Gillespie has been appointed Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Dundee, a position that he will take up from 1 January 2021; further notes that Iain is currently Pro-Vice, Chancellor, Research and Enterprise at the University of Leicester, where he has overseen significant change in the ambition for research and enterprise, doubling the number of research awards, and being awarded the accolade of “outstanding” for its Global Challenge Research Strategy, as well as topping the 2020 Times Higher Global Impact rankings for the UN Sustainable Development Indicator, “Life on Land”; believes that, in these challenging times for the sector, Iain’s drive and passion will be of huge benefit to the university and city, and wishes him every success in his endeavours.
