A68 Reopened in Impressive Time
The motion
That the Parliament applauds the quick repair of the A68 near Fala in Midlothian, which reopened on 7 September 2020, less than a month after it was forced to close, following heavy rainfall that resulted in a landslip washing away part of it; acknowledges that this is a significant and well-used commuter route and that a quick and smooth reopening was imperative; understands that an estimated 5,000 tonnes of rock were used to rebuild the embankment; commends the efforts of Bear Scotland and Transport Scotland in working urgently to repair and reopen the road in such an impressive timescale; believes that this will be a relief to the community and the frequent users of the road, but recognises that, while this reopening should be celebrated, it is important to remember the residents of Fala Dam who bore the brunt of the flood, many of whom remain homeless or in properties that were severely damaged by the flooding.
