Back British Farming Day
The motion
That the Parliament supports the fifth annual Back British Farming Day on 9 September 2020; understands that the campaign celebrates the hard work and commitment of farmers across the UK and encourages the public to support the British food and farming sector by purchasing local produce and being responsible and considerate of others when enjoying the countryside; acknowledges that the campaign has highlighted that British food and farming contributes £120 billion to the UK economy each year and employs four million people, demonstrating the what it considers the undeniable importance of the farming sector to the UK economy; recognises and pays tribute to what it sees as the high standards set by British farmers, particularly around animal welfare and environmental standards, which it considers are some of the highest in the world; thanks them for the incredible work that they do to ensure that people have high-quality produce on their doorstep and the countryside is cared for and supported, and extends its thanks to the National Farmers Union for its efforts to support the sector all year round and raise awareness of the importance of the farming sector through this excellent campaign.
