81st Anniversary of the Disaster at Kippsbyre Colliery
The motion
That the Parliament commemorates the 81st anniversary of the mining disaster at Kippsbyre Colliery, between Coatbridge and Airdrie; notes that, on 22 September 1939, the pit suddenly flooded, leaving Alexander Kinnaird, Thomas Lang and James Walker trapped underground, while five escaped; notes the risk that miners were placed at when simply attending their work; remembers Alexander, Thomas and James, whose bodies were never recovered, and vows that their legacy will never be forgotten.
