Prostate Cancer UK, Encouraging Men to Speak to their GPs
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of a campaign by Prostate Cancer UK to encourage men at risk of the condition to speak to their GP; understands that prostate cancer often has no obvious symptoms in the earliest stages and that cancer symptom-focused public health messaging does not highlight its risk factors; recognises that increased awareness of risk plays a vital role in helping to detect the cancer earlier, which can help save lives; understands that it is the most common cancer in men in Scotland, with over 3,500 diagnosed every year; understands that far fewer men are going to see their GP about prostate problems as a result of COVID-19; congratulates Prostate Cancer UK on developing a risk checker for men and their families to use to help determine their risk; encourages men across Scotland to use the risk checker and to speak to their GP if recommended, and welcomes Prostate Cancer UK’s efforts to support Scotland’s regional cancer networks as the pathways recover.
