The motion

That the Parliament celebrates the 40th anniversary of the West Highland Way (WHW) on 6 October 2020, the iconic and much-loved long distance walking route and the first of Scotland’s great trails, which travels 96 miles from Milngavie in the Lowland’s to Fort William in the Highlands, through some of Scotland's most spectacular scenery; recognises that an estimated 40,000 people from around the world complete the route every year and acknowledges the huge economic benefit to Scotland that this brings; acknowledges the many charity challenges, many tears, tantrums, funny moments, blisters and midges making for shared experiences and memories along the way over the years; commends the maintenance staff and volunteers, the accommodation providers and everyone who works along the WHW for their efforts in keeping the trail open and the warm welcome they give, and looks forward to another 40 great years.
