World Polio Day 2020

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes World Polio Day 2020, on 24 October, which aims to raise awareness of the continued global efforts to eradicate polio; acknowledges that Rotary clubs across the world have dedicated time and resources to the eradication of polio, supporting routine immunisation and contributing to the reduction of polio cases by 99.9% worldwide since 1979; recognises that the Rotary Club of Huntly has contributed to over 25,000 polio immunisations since 2016 through its Purple4Polio Ice Cream in partnership with James Rizza’s & Sons Ltd; celebrates the recent achievement that all 47 countries in the World Health Organization’s African Region are free of wild poliovirus; considers that there is still more work to be done and that COVID-19 presents new challenges to eradication, and thanks all contributors and volunteers who have dedicated their lives to eradicating polio.
