The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 10 October 2020 is World Mental Health Day, a day where the importance of mental wellbeing can be highlighted and where people can come together to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health; acknowledges that mental health is just as important as physical health; considers that poor mental health is a challenge for public health, and that it is important that those who struggle with their mental health have the support that they need to overcome their difficulties; acknowledges that the COVID-19 pandemic has made maintaining positive mental wellbeing a challenge for many; believes that those living in areas of deprivation are approximately twice as likely to experience mental health problems, and considers that work needs to be done to tackle this inequality; highlights the important work of organisations, such as Samaritans, Breathing Space and SAMH in supporting those who are going through a difficult time and considers that talking is a vital tool in improving mental health; welcomes action being taken by the Scottish Government to implement a Mental Health Strategy that will support people in Scotland who are struggling, and encourages everyone to check in with those around them and offer support so that no-one has to suffer in silence when they are struggling with their mental health.
