Falkirk District Schools Youth and Philanthropy Initiative

That the Parliament congratulates pupils from four Falkirk district high schools who participated in the Wood Foundation’s Youth and Philanthropy Initiative, receiving a combined £17,000 for chosen organisations and charities through their efforts; understands that pupils from Larbert High School, St Mungo’s High School, Denny High School and Falkirk High School took part in pre-lockdown classroom activities to learn about philanthropy and the needs of their communities; recognises that three schools secured grants of £3,000 each, with pupils at St Mungo’s securing two grants of £4,000 each; notes that Screen Memories, which aims to recreate a sense of community and belonging using cinema memories, particularly among older people, received £3,000 from Falkirk High School, and that Keep Ticking Falkirk, whose volunteers provide support with cardiac rehabilitation and recovery, were given £3,000 by the pupils from Denny High School; further notes that Larbert High School donated £3,000 to Committed to Ending Abuse, formerly Falkirk and District Women’s Aid, and that £4,000 each was given to Falkirk Autistic Bairns and The Butterfly Trust to support people with autism and cystic fibrosis respectively; commends the young people on the hard work and effort that they put in; considers it important to understand societal issues and recognise what people can do as communities to better support efforts to alleviate and eliminate inequality and provide a better quality of life for their neighbours, friends and families; congratulates all pupils from each school involved in the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative, and encourages more people of all ages to learn from these great examples of community solidarity.
