Motion · S5M-23135 · 26 Oct 2020
Electric Shock Collars
The motion
That the Parliament understands that the use of electric shock collars in Scotland, including in the Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale constituency, is considered by animal welfare experts, academics, and veterinarians to be harmful to a dog’s welfare; is concerned at the effectiveness of the Scottish Government’s 2018 guidance on dog training aids; notes new academic research by the University of Lincoln regarding the efficacy of electronic training devices versus reward based methods; acknowledges that the Scottish Government has announced that it plans to review the effectiveness of their guidance, and notes calls for an urgent ban to be brought forward without delay.
