Bonfire Fright
The motion
That the Parliament notes the multi-agency approach taken by Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, NHS Scotland and many others to deliver the #FireworkSafety campaign to warn people of the dangers of fireworks; acknowledges that leading agencies are not calling for a ban on private fireworks displays but that people respect their environment; notes in particular that every year thousands of animals suffer stress and anxiety caused by their use, coming to harm, or even death, as a result; further notes that the Scottish SPCA animal helpline receives many calls at this time of year from the concerned public about animals in distress due to them having more acute hearing and the sounds causing them to flee from their owners, fields or homes, putting them at risk, and understands that the advice is that owners should stable horses, bring rabbits and cats indoors, dogs should be walked during the day and that those who set off fireworks or light bonfires should check their garden and bonfire piles for animals.
