Role of Electricity Networks in Delivering a Just Transition to Net-zero Emissions
The motion
That the Parliament believes the next decade will be critical to tackling the climate emergency and delivering a just transition to net-zero emissions; recognises what it sees as the critical role that electricity networks will play in connecting and transporting the renewable electricity required to decarbonise the economy; believes therefore that it is critical that the regulatory framework that governs electricity networks clearly supports the delivery of net-zero emissions as well as protecting current and future energy consumers; considers that the statutory duties of the energy regulator, Ofgem, need to be updated to include the delivery of this emissions' target, and calls on the Scottish Government, Ofgem and the energy industry to work together to tackle the climate emergency and deliver a just transition to net-zero emissions.
