Elaine Thornton-Nicol, Scottish Borders' Older People's Champion
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Councillor Elaine Thornton-Nicol, the Older People's Champion at Scottish Borders Council, on winning the Jess Barrow Award for Campaigning and Influencing at the Age Scotland National Awards Ceremony on 9 November 2020; understands that Elaine won the award for her work with older people across the Scottish Borders as a strong advocate for dementia awareness, by ensuring that every elected member on the local authority, and locally-based MSPs and their staff, are trained in dementia awareness as a Dementia Friend; supports calls by Age Scotland and the Scottish Older People's Assembly for all 32 of Scotland's local authorities to appoint an Older People's Champion; congratulates all the winners and nominees in the awards, and wishes Elaine every success in her endeavours as a champion for older people in the Scottish Borders.
