Funding for the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the recent announcement from South of Scotland Enterprise, supported by the Scottish Government, that the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere is to receive £1.9 million of funding over the next five years; notes that the biosphere is an area of land that spans across the Dumfries and Galloway and East and South Ayrshire local authority areas, which has been designated by UNESCO as an area of fantastic landscapes, wildlife, cultural heritage and learning opportunities, and which aims to bring about a better future both for people and nature, helping to tackle climate change and equip the area’s population with a greater understanding of the natural environment; understands that the funding will help to create a number of new jobs, purchase a number of resources and will support the provision of outdoor education; thanks the Chair of the Biosphere, Joan Mitchell, the Chair of South of Scotland Enterprise, Professor Russel Griggs, and all staff and volunteers who are involved with the Biosphere for their outstanding work to secure this funding, and wishes all involved well for the future.
