International Toilet Day 2020
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges that 19 November 2020 is World Toilet Day; recognises that the day emphasises the importance of toilets and seeks to raise awareness that 4.2 billion people worldwide are living without access to safely managed sanitation; supports the day’s goal of promoting the tackling of the global sanitation situation in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6, water and sanitation for all by 2030; understands that climate change further inhibits access to sanitation systems; views clean water and sanitation as essential for the prevention and spread of deadly diseases, such as cholera and typhoid, and condemns reports that the UK’s foreign aid budget may be significantly cut, which, it believes, would diminish the UK’s standing globally and reduce both the help available to millions of the most vulnerable people and the world’s ability to meet the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
