Inverclyde Royal Hospital’s New Surgical Assessment Unit
The motion
That the Parliament notes that the Surgical Assessment Unit at the Inverclyde Royal Hospital (IRH) has helped over 690 patients since opening in April 2020; understands that the Unit is a new way of providing better emergency surgical services at the IRH and builds on the success of similar models introduced across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS GGC); recognises that it allows for patients to see a senior decision-maker quicker and reduces unnecessary admissions to hospital as a result; acknowledges that the reduction in the number of inpatients at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic provided the opportunity for the IRH team to modernise the surgical service in order to provide safe and patient-focussed care; believes that this move will help improve health outcomes for the people of Inverclyde, and hopes that NHS GGC will consider building a new hospital in Inverclyde to further improve community hospital provision.
