Lockerbie 32 Years On
The motion
That the Parliament notes that 21 December 2020 is the 32nd anniversary of the Lockerbie disaster; remembers with sadness the indiscriminate murder of 270 people from 21 countries, including the crew and 11 Lockerbie residents, and the consequences of this atrocity on their families, the community and the people involved in its aftermath all these years on; applauds the kindness of the people of Lockerbie at the time and over the last 32 years, and welcomes what it considers the strong relationship that has been forged between Syracuse University, where 35 of the victims studied and the town; notes that there remains an ongoing investigation into this act of terrorism, including the possibility of charges being brought in the USA against Abu Agila Mas’ud; further notes that, following a referral by the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission into the conviction of Abdelbaset-al Megrahi, to the High Court, a judgment on this third appeal is due shortly, and trusts that, before yet another year passes, and for the sake of their relatives and friends and the people of Lockerbie, there will be a conclusion regarding the worst crime committed on Scottish soil.
