Concerns Regarding Live Shellfish Exports Post-Brexit

Lodged by Dr Alasdair Allan Standard Motion 19 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes the reported concerns expressed by the Scottish fishing industry regarding delays and added administrative burdens caused by the UK’s exit from the EU; understands that the UK-EU live shellfish supply chain is highly sensitive to holdups at the border, which are being caused by third-country food hygiene control requirements; calls on the UK Government to make compensation available to the fishing industry, which is bearing financial losses and significant challenges, until it is returned to commercial viability; further calls on the UK Government to provide initial financial support for UK live shellfish exporters to train and recruit staff to process customs documentation; notes the proposals by the industry to digitise export health certificates' authentication and customs and legal documents submission, and reiterates what it considers the need for UK-EU dialogue, agreement and financial support for UK export agents and European importing agents.
