The motion
That the Parliament notes that 2 February 2021 marks World Wetlands Day; celebrates Scotland’s wetlands as important sites for biodiversity that provide unique and productive habitats to a range of rare, threatened and declining species of mammals, birds, fish and invertebrates; highlights that wetlands provide us with a host of essential systems that are vital such as those that filter drinking water, mitigate flood risks, support food production and are important sites for biodiversity; considers that the climate emergency poses an existential threat to the future of Scotland’s wetlands and the species that call them home; highlights that these sites across Scotland are designated for their protection under the Ramsar Convention, and welcomes calls on the Scottish Government encouraging it to support continued and greater protection for Scotland’s wetlands.
