Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2021
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that 18 to 24 January is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2021, which is aimed at raising awareness of the causes and symptoms of the condition; notes that cervical screening is the best protection against cervical cancer, but that it isn’t always an easy test; understands that COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdowns have made it even harder for many; believes that research suggests that, currently, one in 10 women say that they definitely would not attend screening and 22% feel less likely to attend; welcomes the #SmearForSmear campaign, which is led by Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and aims to remove any potential barriers that might be preventing women from attending screenings, and encourages all eligible women to attend smear test appointments and to access reliable information and support about smear tests, results and any changes due to the pandemic via Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.
