The motion

That the Parliament notes that the launch by Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) of a second helicopter helped the charity to respond to a record number of emergencies in 2020 from its operational bases at Perth Airport and Aberdeen; understands that its crews attended 460 life-threatening emergencies, which represented a 31% increase on the previous year and that serious trauma cases increased by 41%, accounting for 47% of all call-outs; acknowledges that, in addition to airlifting patients to hospital, SCAA’s paramedics were on scene to treat and assist in cases ranging from major multiple-casualty incidents to single-person illnesses in remote and rural locations; notes that, as well as its airborne service being operational for more than 461 hours, the service was active on land as well, with paramedics attending 65 emergencies in its rapid response vehicle; urges people who have had experience of the SCAA to share their stories and to help raise awareness of the charity’s work, and commends its paramedics, aircrew and other staff for their tireless, selfless and dedicated hard work year-on-year.
