The motion

That the Parliament sends its solidarity to Pablo Hasél, who is a Catalan rapper who has been given 10 days to report for prison after being convicted for writing lyrics that were critical of Spanish institutions and the monarchy; understands that Pablo is the latest of a number of musicians targeted by the Spanish authorities for the political content of their work; notes that, according to the artistic freedom advocates, Freemuse, Spain imprisoned 14 artists in 2019; believes that this was more than Iran, Turkey, China and Russia; considers that freedom of expression in the arts is a vital component of any functioning democracy, and calls on the Spanish authorities to cease what it believes is the unjustified persecution of artists.
