The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 1 to 7 February 2021 is Children’s Mental Health Week, which seeks to highlight the importance of children and young people’s mental health; understands that the theme is Express Yourself, which encourages children and young people to find different creative ways to share their feelings, thoughts and ideas; acknowledges that it has been estimated that around three pupils in every primary school class have a mental health problem and that many more experience from a range of challenges, including bullying and bereavement; recognises that events for the awareness week include a virtual assembly, virtual creativity sessions and a variety of online tools that parents and carers can use while home schooling; appreciates that the mental health of children and young people has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic; hopes that the week could help find some good solutions to this, and endeavours to have more discussions with parents and carers, teachers and young people during Children’s Mental Health Week and beyond.
