University of the Highlands and Islands celebrates 10 years.

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) as it celebrates its 10th anniversary of
acquiring university status; further recognises that UHI has the largest
student population in Scotland, educating c.40,000 students per annum;
understands that UHI will mark this anniversary with a series of public virtual
lectures and a social media competition; notes that some of the highlights of
UHI research over the last decade include: re-growing ancient strains of barley
for whisky distilling, improving the quality of water being released into the
environment, minimising the risks to aquaculture by studying algal blooms,
quantifying research on marine plastics, exploring the effect of climate change
on blanket bog areas, improving liver cancer treatments, developing the first
ever large-scale aircraft powered by variable-buoyancy propulsion, and engaging
in deep research over socially unjust emigration due to land inequality in rural
Scotland, and wishes UHI more success in the decades to come.
