World’s First Hydrogen Double-decker Bus Launched into service in Aberdeen

That the Parliament welcomes the launch into service of the world’s first hydrogen-powered double-decker bus in Aberdeen; understands that this is the first of a fleet of 15 double-decker hydrogen buses built in Northern Ireland which will be operated by First Aberdeen on its number 19 route between Tillydrone and Peterculter as part of an £8.3 million project funded by Aberdeen City Council, the Scottish Government and the European Union’s JIVE project, which aims to aid commercialisation of hydrogen buses through joint procurement between cities; recognises that the introduction of hydrogen-powered double-decker buses is only the latest in a series of what it considers ground-breaking hydrogen projects in the city, which have featured, to date, council-owned single-decker buses, council service vehicles and a £19 million hydrogen refuelling station at Kittybrewster, all of which are part of Aberdeen’s commitment to the Net Zero Vision and energy transition; considers that this latest project, led by Aberdeen City Council, is evaluating both the economic and environmental benefits of hydrogen transport, while driving the development of hydrogen technologies, and looks forward to future investment in transformative hydrogen power projects in Aberdeen and across Scotland.
