Broughton Village Store, Supporting Communities
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Broughton Village Store, owned by the community benefit society, Upper Tweed Community Enterprise Ltd, recognising its valuable work, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that the store has now launched a number of community welfare initiatives, including in mid-January a scheme providing a free lunch to any child requesting it regardless of circumstances, which is now providing approximately 15 to 20 lunches per day and an account card top-up initiative, whereby families facing hardship have weekly use of a shop account card pre-loaded with £20; notes that the shop hopes to develop and improve further when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted; considers that, given that 12 months of the 18 months trading so far have been during the pandemic, none of this would be possible without the team of hardworking staff and volunteers as well as the support of the local community with generous donations made to the shop, and gives thanks to all involved at Broughton Village Store for their efforts.
