Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2021
The motion
That the Parliament notes that 1 to 7 March 2021 marks Eating Disorders Awareness Week; appreciates the campaign’s focus this year on binge eating disorder, which it understands one in 50 people will experience in their lifetime, with one in six of those attempting suicide, which it considers shows that this condition is a serious mental health issue; believes that the COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated binge eating disorder issues, as well as other eating conditions; understands that only one in four people who live with binge eating disorder ever receive treatment; commends the performance of the charity, Beat, in providing valuable awareness raising and support for individuals and their families who have these conditions; praises Beat for its fundraising and production of health and educational professional workshops during the awareness week, and applauds all the hard work from the staff and volunteers at Beat in tackling eating disorders through awareness raising and supporting and empowering families and individuals to gain understanding and access treatment.
