Close the Gap’s Employer Accreditation Programme, Equally Safe at Work
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the success of Close the Gap’s employer accreditation programme, Equally Safe at Work; believes that it is an innovative and world-leading initiative; notes that it was piloted with seven local authorities across Scotland from January 2019 to November 2020; understands that it enabled the councils to advance gender equality at work and prevent violence against women by better-supporting victim-survivors in the workplace; believes that such violence is a cause and consequence of wider gender inequality; considers therefore that addressing it is a fundamental step in preventing violence against women; congratulates Midlothian Council, which is to be awarded Bronze accreditation in March in recognition of it demonstrating that it had met criteria across six standards that align with women’s workplace equality, including leadership, data and workplace culture, and hopes that this programme will be rolled out across all of Scotland’s local authorities in the near future.
