Douglas Academy Pupils Triumph in International Debating Contest
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the senior pupils at Douglas Academy in Milngavie on their success at the prestigious GB-India Debating Matters competition; notes that this well-established annual event, which features young teams from Great Britain and India, was held in a virtual format in 2021 in response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic; recognises that the Academy team's route to victory saw its members debate numerous topics in the group stages, including compulsory childhood vaccinations, populist threats to democracy and restricting families to two children; notes that this builds on an impressive record of achievement for the school over the years at more traditional Debating Matters competitions, such as reaching the UK semi-finals three times; applauds the pupils on this success, and wishes them all the best for future debating competitions and with their other work.
