The Steading Saved
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that the Tim Stead Trust has been successful in buying The Steading in Blainslie after a five-year campaign to raise funds to do so, which will enable it to take steps to begin realising its vision to use the building as a centre for workshops, residencies and a celebration of the late sculptor and craftsman, Tim Stead’s, unique legacy; understands that this is thanks to a large upsurge in donations as the campaign was coming to an end and the possibility of the building having to be sold as a private home was becoming closer to reality, with a few large donations from private donors as well as a number of smaller donations from the public; believes that the home is a fantastic and unique example of Tim Stead’s work, which also includes the North Sea Oil Industries Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen’s St Nicholas Kirk, the National Museum of Scotland’s Millennium Clock and the interior of Glasgow’s Cafe Gandolfi, and believes that it is important that it is preserved for future generations as a part of Scotland’s cultural heritage.
