Women and the Canongate Wall
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the skills of the women involved with the creation of the Canongate Wall at the Scottish Parliament, namely designer Soraya Smithson, and the stone carving by Gillian Forbes, who, along with Martin Reilly, has inscribed 26 Scottish stones in the Canongate Wall to date; notes that the stones carry quotations of relevance to the Parliament and to Scotland, taken from poetry, psalm, and song; further notes that only one of the 26 stones carries words written by a woman, Mary Brooksbank, and urges the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body to commission further work to be done, which will more accurately reflect women as 52% of the Scottish population, incorporating more inscribed Scottish stones into the Canongate Wall.
