Food Tourism Can Provide £1.2 Billion Boost to Economy

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Wilma and David Finlay on their continued innovation at Cream o’ Galloway and The Ethical Dairy for the launch of a new programme of socially-distanced food tourism experiences; notes that while the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the closure of their popular woodland adventure playground, the company has pivoted to focus on food tourism and agri-tourism; further notes that food tourism is a major contributor to the rural economy of Galloway and West Dumfries, has been identified as a priority in the recovery of the tourism sector from COVID-19 and is the focus of an industry-led drive to deliver an additional £1 billion to the economy by 2030; understands that food tourism is a key priority of Dumfries and Galloway’s regional Food and Drink Strategy; notes that food and drink is Dumfries and Galloway’s largest, fastest-growing and most valuable economic sector, worth £1.2 billion to our economy, and recognises that the food tourism experiences developed at Cream o’ Galloway and The Ethical Dairy are an opportunity for visitors to Scotland to directly experience some of the highest welfare, best quality food and most innovative regenerative farming practices in the UK.
